Our EP drivers Akio Sobue and Naoto Matsukura travelled to China last weekend to represent Infinity in the promising new Chinese Electric Touring Car Championship (CETC).  A four round championship aimed at raising the profile of touring car racing across China, the opening round was held at the Amazing Indoor Arena in Guangzhou.  Racing on the impressive 40m X 24.5m indoor asphalt track that was only completed in January, Akio and Naoto would achieve a 1-2 result with our ProtoTC.

With five World Championship finalists contesting the well attended event, Akio was quick to get comfortable with his set-up and opened the weekend by setting the fastest 3-consecutive laps in seeding practice.  Carrying that pace into qualifying he would TQ the opening and closing rounds to secure the overall TQ.  Opening the second day of the event with a TQ run in the third qualifier, Naoto would put his ProtoTC third on the grid behind Naoki Akiyama and ahead of Nicholas Lee with Viktor Wilck, who designed the track layout, completing the top half of the grid.

Winning the first final by a comfortable 5-seconds margin, A2 would be a little more eventful for Akio.  Leading from Naoto, who had got by Akiyama for second, a mistake would send his car rolling onto its roof.  With no where to go Naoto would hit the up side down car.  Luckily for Akio, the impact put his car back on his wheels & sent him back on his way but unfortunately it left Naoto’s car needing to be marshalled.  Finishing the leg 1-2, both drivers enjoying a good laugh about the incident afterwards. The result meant Akio becomes the CETC’s first winner and with no need to race A3 he could watch from the sidelines.  A great start from Naoto would allow him to beat Akiyama off the line to take the lead and setting the fastest race winning time of the weekend he completed a 1-2 for the ProtoTC with Wilck completing the podium.
