2017 AUSTRALIAN IC ONROAD NATIONALS
NOV 23-25 SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES
Sydney played host to the 2017 Australian IC Onroad National Championships with Infinity driver Luke Duthie making the trip from New Zealand to compete for 1:8 honours. Hosted by the Penrith District Nitro Racing Inc track, Luke quickly got himself and his car up to speed with the circuit, ending practice second fastest behind defending champion Jeff Hamon.
While qualifying wouldn’t start well, Q1 resulting in no result, Luke quickly put this DNS behind him by taking the TQ in the second of the six rounds. Posting second fastest times in Q3, 4 & 5, he capped off qualifying with another TQ run. Securing second on the grid for the 45-minute final, a strong race looked on the cards as he moved to the front of the pack after 5-minutes of racing. Able to hold that led for the first half of the race, unfortunately an engine issue would put an end to his chances of victory. Costing him 4 laps, he was able to get the car going again to recover 4th place running out time to make it onto the podium. A disappointing end result given the pace shown by Luke and his car, which in his own words was ’great and very enjoyable to drive’.
Thanks to Luke for his efforts and for representing Infinity strongly at the Australian Nationals.
